Manish Arora collection aw08
The shows Friday (day three) and Saturday (day four) were slightly more colourful than the previous. Minimarket’s quirky dramatic styling draw references to the London’s colourful Manish Arora and added that little glimpse of illuminating light in a somewhat black, grey, brown and navy round of fashion shows.

By Malene Birger
By Malene Birger delivered, as always, a top professional show with numerous celebrities on front row and this time with less party wear and more wearable every day clothes. Next up was the Henrik Vibskov show held in the cool and trendy Kødbyen. He yet again proved he belongs among the trendiest designers with his innovative, quirky yet wearable collection.

The highlight of day four was the Wood Wood show – beautiful red haired girls and hip boys wearing cool street-style clothes with a relaxed and stress-free attitude.

Wackerhaus
Yet another day has passed of CFW – and what a day!
It started with Wackerhaus – winner of The Max factor New Talent Award – who presented a beautiful collection with tailored men’s trousers and jackets in neutral colours with splashes of cobber. All models had an elf cobber ear decoration, which was truly an exquisite little fine styling finesse.
Next up was Noblesse, held at the exclusive hotel Nimb – and they also delivered a well-designed collection and had a beautiful aristocratic black models along their model line-up.

Next up was Bruuns Bazaar , then bARBARA I gONGINI, Munthe Plus Simonsen and lovely Designers Remix presenting a beautiful collection yet with last-season details such as the over exposed ‘Balmain’ shoulders.

However, the joys of the day were sadly overshadowed by the tragic news of Alexander McQueen’s dead in central London. A truly designer icon who will be missed and remembered for his unique talent and innovative catwalk presentations. May he rest in peace.

Rützou set design at the City Hall
First day of CFW had its peeks at the Louise Amstrup and Spon Diogo shows. Two fairly new brands – Louise Amstrup reasonably ‘commercial’ with fine details, cuts and silhouettes, Spon Diogo more conceptual but definitely with wearable styles, this season kept in a strict colour code of black, grey and red, and produced only in the most exclusive qualities.

However, the day started out quit differently with a trend talk and trend show at the BC (described in an earlier blog) – the largest fair during CFW, then off to Pureheart held at the stunning Hotel Nimb, then Ivana Helsinki follow by the other fair show CPH Vision, this year held at the Opera – one of the most astonishing backdrops for a fashion show.

The next show was Louise Amstrup’s who, as mentioned above, was one of the highlights of this first day at CFW. Rützou held in keeping with tradition the show at the City Hall – but this season the scene was wrapped in red carpet and decorated with large disco balls – I guess inspired by the silver ball-crowned fountain of Pol Bury at the Jardin du Palais Royal in Paris.

After Rützou it was just a short walk back to Hotel Nimb where Spon Diogo held their show and the day ended with a very late BZR show at a building site in central Copenhagen.
All in all a rather commercial day, but with heart warming glimpse of talented, innovative and interesting design pieces one could only look forward to.

In keeping with the tradition CFW was kicked off this morning by a trend talk and show at the fashion fair BC – this year provided by the French trend agency Nelly Rodi.
We have entered a new decade and according to Nelly Rodi the future will consist of four different tribes – the Fix-its, the Emo-techno, the Activists and the Sophistocrats – four themes that were also reflected in the fashion show following the trend talk.
In short:
The Fix-its
It’s about values and attitude and recreating the tribes/families values. It’s about “the comeback of the new modesty” as Karl Lagerfeld said it recently.
The Emo-techno
Emo-tech (Emotional Technology) a tribe who wants to benefit fro the science and technology. It’s about round / curved / organic shapes and creating a bubble – a second skin – around you – it’s about joy!
The Activist
Are bored and don’t not feel free. They embrace the future with powerful extravagance and praises women like Lady Gaga and Beth Ditto. They are provocative and into art installations like the Belgian Arne Quinze’s wood sculpture at the L’eclaireur shop in Paris.
The Sophistocrats
Are the 2.0 generation – Michael Jackson is dead it’s time to wake up! They have little money and challenge the materialism. They play with kitsch/chic/sophistication, dandy – playing with classical values. Twisted, trompe l’oeil and most of all they want to have fun!

It’s like being a child waiting for Christmas Eve – tomorrow the biannual fashion weeks kicks off with Copenhagen Fashion Week – 36 shows and a vast number of events in just 4 days.
So what to do while waiting for the madness to start? I’m a big fan of street art and love to browse around big cities keeping my eyes open for these unique and often temporary artworks.
This weekend I fell over this series of a little creature in London’s Soho.

Do you have any unique pictures of street art you would like to share – please email photos with info on where and when they were taken – and later on I will post a selection of the best on the blog. Can’t wait to receive your contributions.
Copenhagen Fashion Week presents – in collaboration with Danish Fashion Institute – a fashion award supporting and celebrating up-and-coming talents where the public are encouraged to vote. Check out the website below and embrace this possibility to vote on your favourite among the nominees.
It rarely happens that the public are asked their opinion in this somewhat closed industry – so grab it and have your say!
