Designers Remix ss11 - a

It’s that simple – one word to describe the ss11 collection from Designers Remix by Charlotte Eskildsen presented this season at London Fashion Week.

Crisp tailored and intellectual constructed garments – somewhat understated with the use of variations over mellow greys, black, white and soft fluorescent orange highlights. Pleats, flower formed petals, ruffles – it may sound a lot was going on, but everything was put together so perfectly and kept the look simple and sleek.

The Designers Remix DNA was still visible – origami folds, asymmetric shapes, sexy LBDs and LWDs – sophisticated yet cool and the fragile lace panels inserted here and there added the icing on the cake.

If you (like me) cannot wait for the ss11 Designers Remix collection to hit the stores – the aw10 are available online here

Vanessa Bruno : Lou Doillon

The relationship between fashion and film are no longer an up-and-coming aspect or fling – occasionally popping up in the trendiest of the trendiest fashion media – but a highly integrated part of the fashion industry.

Now, well into London Fashion Week, it’s obvious that live-streaming, screenings and films are not new but the medium creating a wave of excitement as technology upgrades and expand to possibilities of communication to a broader audience.

Today, for instance, one of London’s trendiest shops (with a small range under same name) bStore presents the fashion film Leaving Dreamland and with that join the group of creative heads and brands; Vanessa Bruno (see film below), Dior, Tom Ford, Celine (see film below), Commes des Garcons etc. using ‘poetry in motion’ to communicate their vision.

LFW SHOW LIVE STREAMING

Pauline / 15.09.10 / 13:06 / FASHION WEEKS

London Fashion Week is approaching with hasty steps – and as I’m sure a lot of you would love to experience a fashion show, why not join the live streaming of Acne’s womenswear show on Sunday the 19th.

Admitted – it’s not quit the same as the live experience, but not a bad second option at all either.

See invitation below and join ‘the club’.

SS11 HUSH-HUSH IS THE NEW HYPE

Tom Ford

Yesterday Tom Ford unveiled his ss11 women collection during New York Fashion Week– the designer’s return to womenswear after six years concentrating on menswear and film directing, is the most-anticipated moment of the Spring 2011 season.

Tom Ford has cast French starlet Lou Doillon to walk in his clothes, he has also persuaded some rather more A-list celebrities to model his first own label collection – namely, fellow designer Victoria Beckham and superstar Beyonce Knowles and that the designer himself will talk the audience through Victoria Beckham for her own fashion presentations.

Reports suggest that all those present had to sign confidentiality agreements and there will only be one official in-house photographer allowed to snap the looks on all those A-list models – and even those images won’t be released until January 2011 when the clothes hit the rails, to prevent copying.

So now you know; the first trend emerging for Spring 2011 is: hush-hush!

NEXT: STOCKHOLM FASHION WEEK

Cheap Monday

Cheap Monday

Copenhagen Fashion Week is barely at its end before Stockholm Fashion Week takes over.

A bit of a different set up and much more local, but they still have some cool brands to offer: Acne (who held an event during CFW) Hope, Whyred, Carin Wester, Fillipa K, Cheap Monday just to name a few.

However, those Swedes are cool and although they are so like us they are in a way totally different. Those of you who have been to Stockholm know what I’m talking about.

Should you pop buy Stockholm in the nearest future here are some city tips:

Stay at Story Hotel:

Eat lunch at Riche:

Shop: NK, Götgatan, Birger Jarslgatan, Acne’s flagship store at Norrmalmstorg

See the Vee Speers exhibition (runs until 5 September) and the Annie Leibovitz exhibition (runs until 19 September) at Fotografiska Museum:

Bonus info: In good weather take a bike trip round Djürgården and pop buy one of the restaurants at the sea front for some Swedish Löjrom/Toast Skagen.

CFW DAY THREE

Minimarket final 1

Minimarket

Today’s shows: Jesper Høvring, Simon Rasmussen, Veronica B. Vallenes, Ivan Grundahl, S’Nob de Noblesse, Minimarket, Wackerhaus, By Malene Birger and Henrik Vibskov.

Today’s shows covered the largest diversity to date; from Jesper Høvring’s couture dresses to Simon Rasmussen’s reworked second hand pieces. From one of the grand old men in Danish Fashion: Ivan Grundahl to Minimarkets Tribal expressionistic style and again to By Malene Birger’s sleek, international-edged and VIP-packed show. Shows, styles and expressions from one borderline to another.

However, my favourite among Friday’s show was Wackerhaus. Peach, mint-green, grey and black were the main colours in her SS11 collection. She showed beautiful details like lace on cute dresses, high-waisted trousers with pleats as well as sublime soft tailoring.

Wackerhaus had indeed something to live up to, having won the Max Factor New Talent Award – but I can assure you, she did not disappoint!

Peter Jensen accessories

To avoid a long screed on all the shows, I have decided to focus on what I thought was the show of the day, and today’s shining star was with out a doubt Peter Jensen’s (Crown Princess Mary attended his show!) show at the Bumble&Bumble scene in Forum.

Yet again, he lived up to and surpassed my expectation. Wearable clothes with a quirky twist and an edge where it’s obvious that these he’s really enjoying what he’s doing. Prints and colours, the silhouettes and the styling all came together as a fresh, fun and light approach for next spring/summer wardrobes. Let the pictures speak for themselves.

CFW DAY ONE

Pauline / 11.08.10 / 21:29 / FASHION WEEKS

Spon Diogo

The first day of anything is seldom fully successful – people need time to get in the mood – and that goes for fashion weeks too. Today it felt like the fashion crowd wasn’t quit ready yet after summer’s relaxations – today was the warm up. Nevertheless, day one still offered sophisticated design and stylish people (mostly the international buyers and press).

Two of the high lights of the day were the SPON DIOGO show with architectural and sculptural silhouettes in primarily white, citrus, black and grey and Rützou’s sexy, effortless and elegant collection with a touch of sweetnes; beautifully draped backs, gold on grey laced textile and hints of emerald green.

Rützou's catwalk

Furthermore, Rützou’s catwalk was as intriguing as last season – this time a morph between of a clean, sculptural almost Japanese looking art installation and Jørgen Haugen Sørensen’s art installation ‘The House That Rains’ placed on Skt. Hans Torv in Nørrebro, Copenhagen.

All in all promising prelude for the days to come…

LFW and much much more

Irving Penn

Irving Penn

This week has been absolutely fashion/style manic here in London – London Fashion Week, The Baftas and Elle Style Awards. And on top of that the fantastic photography exhibition, Irving Penn Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery.

London has yet again proved to be one of the most important players in the world of fashion. Talented designers such as Christopher Kane, Erdem, Christopher Bailey from Burberry and Peter Pilotto certainly proved their importance.

Over the past few seasons, Peter Pilotto and his partner, Christopher De Vos, have become known for digitally printing, cutting, and draping a steady series of subtly patterned dresses engineered so flatteringly to so many women’s physiques that retailers just can’t keep them in stock, and there’s only one problem with the jackets from Burberry Prorsum’s aw10 collection – which one to choose? The outerwear was available to pre-order during the show on the Burberry site, and every hybrid thereof, in all their variations of volume, shape, shagginess, and leather strap and buckle detail – was absolutely desirable. Bailey nailed it from the point of view of proportion—oversize and cropped—and practicality!

I have yet to become a fan of Christopher Kane’s collections however I must admit he always captures tomorrow’s trends. As Style.com’s Sarah Mower put it, “Fashion needs brains like his to move things on.” This season, it was black leather embroidered with flowers patterned after parochial Women’s Institute craftwork that did the queasy job.

Erdem’s success consistency won him a British Designer of the Year award at the Elle Style Award – well deserved in my opinion, as I’ve loved his designs since I became acquainted with him during my bachelor studying years.

Other winners worth mentioning was Christopher Bailey (International Designer),  Alexa Chung (Editor’s Choice), Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (Elle Style Icons 2010) and the Accessories Designer of the Year award went to our very own and extremely talented Camilla Skovgaard.

Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan

With London Fashion Week and the BAFTA ceremony held last night at the Royal Opera House, London is in full style/fashion/party/champagne alert – even Tom Ford is here!

In keeping with tradition London Fashion Week launched at Somerset where British Fashion Council chairman Harold Tillman opened LFW with a speech where he also spoke of Alexander McQueen’s “extraordinary impact” on the international fashion industry, before inviting attendees to hold a minute’s silence to remember “this great talent”.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah Brown was there as well (dressed in Erdem) she spoke of her admiration and awe at the designers due to exhibit their collections at the event. She said: “I have no doubt this will be a creative and inspiring London Fashion Week and also a reflective time with the passing of Lee (Alexander) McQueen.”

Betty Jackson aw10

Betty Jackson aw10

So far designers such as House of Holland, Ann Sofie Back, PPQ, Betty Jackson and Margaret Howell has shown their collections on the catwalk and Holly Fulton (who is hotter than hot here in London), Clements Ribeiro, Eley Kishimoto and Mulberry have shown their collections at a so-called LFW Presentation – a more flexible way of presenting the new collections with several timeslots or ‘open entrance’ invitations to fit into any busy schedule.

On top of London Fashion Week the British Academy Film Awards (equivalent to the American Oscars) was held yesterday at an exclusive event at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. As I hoped for the award for Leading Actress went to Carey Mulligan (An Education by Danish Lone Scherfig) of whom I have high future expectations. Winner of Best film was The Hurt Locker and the Leading Actor award went Colin Firth (A Single Man) who fulsomely praised Tom Ford (Director of the film) for his direction, style and personality.

YouTube Preview ImageWell, off to more show – I’m especially looking forward to Erdem at 2.30pm and Hussein Chalayan’s presentation. Watch this space!
