It’s a rainy day in Copenhagen today – so what a better way to occupy oneself by flipping through the books in my wall-to-wall bookshelf. I’m fanatic with books and I buy them faster than I can read or look through them, and I have so many that I forget them and their astonishing content.

My bookshelf

Sarah Moon
My hand stopped at one of my (if not the) first fashion photography book I bought – Circuss by Sarah Moon. Few of you might know her – she’s a 72 old Brit living in Paris. Nearly all her photos are black and white, sometimes with a splash of one single colour. She is known for her poetic, soft and authentic style – some might call it melancholic.
“Very often I say to myself: I would like to make a photo where nothing happens. But in order to eliminate, there has to be something to begin with. For nothing to happen, something has to happen first.”
Hope you’ll be inspired too…

Spring and early summer is the essence of showcasing the new and upcoming talents. London and especially Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion are known as a creative melting pot turning out tomorrow’s bright new shining design superstars.
The BA graduates from London College of Fashion showcased their work yesterday at an event held at The Dairy in central London. Among the guest were heavy and important industry figures such as Jane Shepherdson (former Brand Director at Top Shop), Colin McDowell (Sunday Times) and Harold Tillman (chairman of The British Fashion Council).
Only time will show if the names; Nattaphon Sampathakdee, Yelena Loguiiko, Vilvin Sabu or Karishma Shahani rings a bell in a few years time.

Although art in Copenhagen is fades in comparison to Basel, New York, London etc. you’ll still find huge potential. And it’s indeed a hidden gem for up-coming contemporary artist and galleries.
One of my favourite independent galleries Helene Nyborg Contemporary holds an exhibition preview and book launch on Asmund Havsteen-Mikkelsen’s ‘Meditation on the Uncanny’ on Friday 4 June @ 5-7pm.
In his work, Asmund Havsteen-Mikkelsen explores painterly space, drawing inspiration from built environment via photography and models and to me his paintings draw parallels to David Hockney’s early work, which I love for their simplicity and graphic beauty.

If you’re around, go have a look.
